Applying for Aid

To be considered for financial aid at PVC, students must submit one application: the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Both are free, and both use the applicant's information to determine aid eligibility. 

Which Application to File 

  • U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens should file the FAFSA.
  • Undocumented students, DACA recipients (current or expired), U Visa holders, or students with TPS who meet AB 540 requirements should file the CADAA. 
  • Only one application should be filed. Students uncertain of which to file are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance. 

FAFSA — Free Application for Federal Student Aid 

Used for: 

  • Federal aid (Pell Grant, FSEOG, Federal Work-Study) 
  • California aid (Cal Grant, Chafee Grant for Foster Youth, Student Success Completion Grant) 

Students and any contributor (spouse or parent) must each create an FSA ID and provide consent for IRS tax information transfer. Without consent, the FAFSA remains incomplete.

CADAA — California Dream Act Application 

Used for: 

  • California state aid (Cal Grant) 
  • Institutional aid from PVC 

Students should confirm AB 540 status with the college to receive in-state tuition and state aid. Information submitted through the CADAA is not shared with the federal government and is not used for immigration enforcement purposes.

Before You Begin 

  • Create an FSA ID in advance (FAFSA only); each contributor requires an individual FSA ID.
  • Use PVC's school code: 001259. 
  • Submit a new application annually, as a new FAFSA or CADAA is required each academic year. 
  • Note the priority deadline of March 2 for Cal Grant consideration.

Parents or spouses who provide information on a student's application are not thereby made financially responsible for that student's education costs. Their information is used solely to determine aid eligibility.
