How to Receive Assistance from the CalWORKs Program

  • Be enrolled in Palo Verde College (PVC) credit classes, the PVC GED Program, or PVC non-credit classes.
  • Be a CalWORKs cash aid recipient. Both the student and their child(ren) must be receiving CalWORKs cash aid benefits.
  • Have at least one child under the age of 18.

Note: All eligibility requirements must be met to qualify for services or participation.

Documents Needed

Student needs to provide a copy of the following to the PVC CalWORKs office each semester enrolled:

  • Current Class Schedule
  • College Educational Plan
  • Verification of Benefits (DPSS form CSF 142)
  • Welfare to Work Document (DPSS form WTW 2)

Education & Financial Independence

  • The Core of CalWORKs: Education and training are the most critical components of the program, designed to help cash aid (CalWORKs) recipients achieve long-term independence and financial freedom.
  • Career Stability: Obtaining a higher level of education leads to careers with more substantial income and long-term stability and other potential benefits.
  • Financial Assistance: Students may qualify for assistance covering books, academic supplies, bus passes, gas cards and childcare costs.

Child Care Support

  • Eligibility: Enrolled CalWORKs students may be eligible for childcare funding.
  • Flexible Provider Options: Daycare centers, licensed providers, and even qualified relatives and friends can serve as eligible daycare providers. Friends must register with Trustline. 
  • Reimbursement for Hours: Providers are financially reimbursed for the time you spend attending classes or working.

Job Development & Placement

  • Targeted Placement: CalWORKs helps place students in job roles that directly align with their area of study or long-term career goals.
  • Employer Incentives: The program can reimburse employers for up to 75% of a student's wages for up to one full academic year.
  • Key Benefits: The Job Development initiative focuses on helping students earn additional income, gain hands-on work experience, and secure continued long-term employment.
